Zhong Haowen, a Ph.D student from the Intense Pulsed Particle Beam Laboratory of the School of Physics of Beihang University was presented Young Researcher Award for the 21st International Conference on Surface Modification of Materials by Ion Beams (SMMIB-2019), together with other five young researchers from Russia, France and South Africa. The conference was held in Tomsk, Russia, on August 25-30, 2019.
The International Conference on Surface Modification of Materials by Ion Beams is not only an important conference in the field of basic research and application of ion beams, but also the longest-running and most influential conference in the field of surface modification of materials by ion beams. The 21st International Conference, regularly held every two years, was jointly held by Tomsk Polytechnic University and the Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Science. Attended by over 200 scholars from more than 20 countries, the conference focused on six front-line and hot issues such as surface morphology of materials by ion beams, ion beam irradiation effect, ion beam accelerator, etc. Zhong Haowen delivered two speeches with titles of “The interplay of metal surface topography and ablation behavior during intense pulsed ion beam irradiation” and “Crater evolution on surface morphology of metallic materials under intense pulsed ion beam irradiation”.
Since entering the School of Physics in 2013, Zhong Haowen, together with his supervisor Professor Yue Xiaoyun, has engaged in the construction, commissioning and upgrading of BIPPAB-450 intense pulsed particle beam acceleration and made great efforts to surface morphology of metallic materials under intense pulsed ion beam irradiation. Besides, he was once presented the Excellent Presentation Award on the 17th Conference on Charged-Particle Sources & Beams (CPSB-17).
